Colleague in the spotlight: Chetan Samkuniya

Let me introduce
myself : My name is Chetan Samkuniya, Frontend developer at DevRepublic. I am responsible for the front, front-end, of an application, website or program. The visible part for the visitor. My job is to make sure this looks and works on as many resolutions, browsers, operating systems and devices as possible. I do this with HTML5, CSS3, jQuery, Bootstrap, Responsive HTML, Cross Browsing and developing custom jQuery functionalities. And that makes our customers happy. And make everyone happy is my motto! I also love to travel and   dance, especially Garba , this is a typical Indian folk dance.

How long have you been working at DevRepublic and how do you like that?
I have been working at DevRepublic for a little over 3 years. The biggest advantage is the stress-free working environment. If there is a task or project, sufficient time is reserved for it. This prevents headaches and contributes to the quality.

What does your working day look like?
Just like most other colleagues, actually. I start with a stand-up meeting, currently online. Here we discuss the tasks, new priorities and planning. Then I get to work.

And what is it like for you to work from home?
It's no different for a while, but I can't wait to get back to the office. I prefer to work from the office, because that is where the working environment is most pleasant for me.

What are you most proud of?
Since I started working at DevRepublic I have become employee of the month 3 times. Fantastic!

And what is it like for you to work with Dutch people?
Nice. I love seeing them talk to everyone with a huge smile. For the Dutch there is no difference between senior / junior level, everyone is treated equally.

However, there are still differences in culture. What do you notice about that?
India is a land of 'unity in diversity' Over the centuries there has been an important fusion of cultures. Dutch society is egalitarian and modern. The people are modest, tolerant, independent, self-reliant and enterprising.

And are there other typically Dutch things that you like?
Yes, stroopwafels! I ate them during John and Eva's last visit to our office. Those cakes are really delicious
